On the last Wednesday of every month, Painting at The Park, hosted by Henderson’s Pinot’s Palette, adds a fabulous Vegas twist to en plein air. The event sets up shop in the trendy dining and shopping promenade nestled between New York-New York and Monte Carlo, where attendees receive the supplies and instruction needed to take home a personal masterpiece—all while taking in live music and refreshments from Park restaurants.
In September, however, rain forced the easels inside California Pizza Kitchen. Despite the absence of mild fall sunshine, attendees enjoyed CPK’s casual ambience and tasty bites fresh out of the oven while watching each other succeed (and fail) at re-creating one of the nine provided templates. Interactions with the instructors and other painters were welcome, not forced, creating a leisurely paint, sip and socialize sesh.
It’s funny how having something to do with your hands helps conversation flow—not to mention social lubrication via boozy sippers. My drawing skills are mostly limited to stick figures, but with food, new friends and friendly instructors, I got comfortable with releasing my inner artiste.
No matter what your artistic abilities are, Painting at The Park offers a unique experience in a unique setting—a fun way to meet friends and try something different.
