Help Fido and Party

Show some love to shelter animals Thursday, April 20 at the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA, annual event, Animals in Wonderland. The fundraiser taps into the world of the Mad Hatter set in Wayne Newton’s Casa de Shenandoah (3310 E. Sunset Road) after hours.

The whimsical tea party features characters from the beloved Alice in Wonderland world, as well as an upscale tea bar, wine and desserts, complete with rescued animals to meet and adopt. Guests can bid on silent auction items such as messaging on an outdoor billboard or jewelry. Other auction opportunities include a tattoo/consultation with founder of Pussykat Tattoo Dirk Vermin, a personal invitation to BMXer Ricardo Laguna’s “backyard” for a bike lesson, and a personal tour of Zak Bagans’ new Haunted Museum (read our spooky preview of it). Dress swanky for the party, which runs from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. But if you can’t attend, silent auction is also available online.

According to Kathy Jung, president of the Nevada SPCA, the event “encourages and inspires support” for the live-saving animal rescue work. It raises money for the organizations which operates a no-kill animal shelter for animals who have been abused, neglected, abandoned or face other dire situations in the Valley. Proceeds from the event go directly to providing medical care, rehabilitation and adoption services for thousand of animals every year.
