Seen Around Town: Carrie Underwood Receives Recognition, Life Is Beautiful Takes Twitter

Celebrities frequent our city around the clock. Here's the most notable visits of the week.

So, NFL star Marshawn Lynch, last seen not running the ball in for a Super Bowl-winning touchdown (sorry Carroll, it can’t be forgiven), is leaving “retirement” behind to join your Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders.

It’s a two-year deal, so there’s no guarantee Lynch will still be around when the Raiders move to our new $750 million Las Vegas stadium. But we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

In the meantime, let’s get to the sightings.

Monday 24

Speaking of great, retired athletes, former New York Yankee and four-time World Series champion Bernie Williams sat in as a special guest guitarist at Monday’s Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns show inside the Lounge at the Palms.

That might have surprised a few people who only know Williams from his playing days, but since leaving baseball after the 2006 season, he’s released two solo jazz albums and scored a Latin Grammy nomination. That’s more than we can say for our musical careers.

Meanwhile, the annual National Association of Broadcasters convention is in Las Vegas, which not only brings together media types but also big-time celebrities.

Among those spotted in and around the Las Vegas Convention Center: Nerdist founder Chris Hardwick, who interviewed NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt onstage, Simpsons voice guru Hank Azaria with his Brockmire co-star Amanda Peet, CBS Sunday Morning anchor Jane Pauley, actress America Ferrera and The Today Show correspondent Joan Lunden, who received the Distinguished Service Award for her four-plus decades of work.

Tuesday 25

Singer Carrie Underwood, who was here earlier this month for the Academy of Country Music Awards, was back in town to receive the Broadcast Music Industry Board of Directors Award at the 69th-annual NAB dinner. Underwood also did a few songs for the invite-only crowd.

And did you hear? The 2017 Life Is Beautiful lineup is set and tickets sold out. (See more of what’s to come from the festival here)

Some of the artists who will play this fifth incarnation of Life Is Beautiful have been tweeting their excitement.
