With EDC Week’s 10 days and nights of parties surrounding the Electric Daisy Carnival, one doesn’t have to actually go to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to experience the energy of the electronic dance music festival. Throughout the week, most of EDC’s headlining DJs complement their festival sets with shows at nightclubs and dayclubs up and down the Strip. One such event that electronic music enthusiasts should consider this year is Daylight’s June 15 nighttime Eclipse pool party, as EDC producer Insomniac is presenting Dark Water, an installment of its Factory 93 warehouse party series.
First launched in Los Angeles in May 2016, the Factory 93 series was created so Insomniac could return to its roots of offering underground warehouse raves. The events exclusively feature techno and deep house music, and Dark Water’s roster includes veterans of those genres: techno queen Nicole Moudaber, techno pioneer Chris Liebing and techno duo Pan-Pot.
Not only is Moudaber headlining the event, but she also curated the Friday-night lineup for EDC’s Neon Garden stage, which is being hosted by Factory 93 throughout the weekend. Her takeover is called the MoodZONE—a nod to her record label Mood Records—and the talent roster includes Moudaber, Liebing and Pan-Pot alongside rising British DJ/producer Cristoph, Life and Death label founder DJ Tennis, L.A.–based Shmitty and tech/house duo Solardo.
“This is my second MoodZONE festival stage takeover and I’m honored to have it take place at one of North America’s biggest electronic music festivals, EDC Las Vegas,” says Moudaber. “We put together a heavy lineup and are going to have the crowd in the mood from the beginning to the end!”
The Dark Water event at Daylight serves as a preview of what Moudaber has planned for the MoodZONE—and there’s good reason why there’s overlap in the two lineups. A true trailblazer, Chris Liebing has been DJing worldwide for over 20 years now, while Pan-Pot is only performing four shows in the United States this summer—and two of them are the Dark Water and MoodZONE appearances.
While the underground techno scene in Las Vegas is small, it’s growing and there is a lot of momentum behind it. If one is curious about techno or hasn’t seen these three acts perform live—and is in the “mood” to dance their ass off—Dark Water might just be the perfect party.
