The Vegan’s Food Guide to Life is Beautiful

Here are the best of the festival’s plant-based eats

Shiitake mushroom dumplings from Bling Bling Dumpling

With gorgeous weather and the fifth annual Life is Beautiful festival taking place, this weekend can’t get much better. And for the lovely vegan lot, this year’s festival offers plenty of food options ranging from organic and healthy to veganized versions of omni meals. Here are some of the plant-based goodies worth checking out.

Crispy Chicken Sandwich from Garden Grill

One of the most popular spots for food last year—vegan or not—Garden Grill returns. This all vegan mobile restaurant serves up meals such as its eerie recreation of typically meat eats like the Crispy Chick’n Sandwich and Philly Cheeze Steak. Tacos—beer battered avocado, pulled jackfruit and steak—are also on the menu plus the Caesar’s Envy Wrap, which is a Caesar salad stuffed into a wrap. For dessert, choose between a raw New York style plain cheesecake or chocolate cheesecake. Wash it all down with hibiscus iced tea or a young Thai coconut.

If you’re looking for healthy options, 50 Shades of Green, a largely organic food truck, has a Vegan Power Salad to enjoy, loaded with quinoa, red and yellow bell peppers, zucchini, rainbow kale and red onion tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette. There’s also a vegan burger with fries. A few menu items can be tweaked to be vegan such as the burrito bowl (sub tofu for the chicken, hold the cheese) and the BLT (sub avocado for the bacon).

Also on the wholesome side, Middle Feast Food Truck has quite a few vegan options including falafel, bowls and even shakshuka, a hearty tomato-based dish (simply hold the egg). QFS Tacos is serving a vegan taco trio on gluten-free tortillas with sauteed baby spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and guac, topped with homemade tomatillo or red pepper salsa. Don’t miss the veggie burrito either.

And for something on the go, head to Bling Bling Dumpling for its tasty shiitake mushroom dumplings of fried tofu or

Fried Tofu and rice from Little Fatty

Little Fatty for it’s fried tofu served with a sweet soy sauce and topped with pickled jalapenos and onions.

Thirsty? Head to The Twisted Lemon for some fresh made lemonade or caffeinate at Makers & Finders, which has nut milks available.

Other vegan highlights at Life is Beautiful include the return of Origin India, serving masala dosa, veggie curry and samosas; Pop Up Pizza’s Soho slices (Daiya cheese, artichoke, spinach, mushroom, roasted red peppers); and Recess Italian Ice and Desserts with all of their Italian Ices available except the chocolate nutella.
