Standing outside the massive wood-paneled doors of OMNIA Nightclub, I’m counting the steps between the entrance and the Caesars Palace sportsbook, trying to imagine how some 4,000 people are going to line up in an orderly fashion for the club’s New Year’s Eve festivities.
Surely it will all work out. After all, it’s not like they haven’t done this before.
So confident am I in this estimation that it comes as no surprise, upon my entry, to find everything is quiet—that is to say, business as usual—only six hours away from another Friday-night bash. The bar is already stocked, the floor and tables are pristine, and the four decks in the DJ booth are covered, waiting for DJ Mikey Francis, the evening’s headliner.
If you’ve never seen a nightclub with its lights up (sober, I mean), it’s quite the experience. You kind of want to run across the dance floor and through all the little corridors, waving your arms and shouting “Echo!” just because you know you’ll never get another chance to do it again.
A Three-Night New Year’s Party
We’re one week out from OMNIA’s New Year’s Weekend, a 50-something-hour span that begins December 29 and ends sometime in the early hours of 2018.
Zedd, the 28-year-old wunderkind (and No. 10 on Forbes’ top-arning DJs list), will headline Friday night, filling the currently silent club with music as throngs of partygoers sway under OMNIA’s centerpiece chandelier. Nearby, Las Vegas’ DJ Stretch will headline in Heart of OMNIA lounge.
OMNIA will shuffle the deck on Saturday, December 30, swapping out EDM for hip-hop with “Goosebumps” rapper and Hakkasan Group resident Travis Scott taking the stage, as DJ Shift plays Heart of OMNIA.
And on the biggest night of the year, OMNIA brings triple-barrel all-star action, with Calvin Harris—No. 1 on that Forbes list—in the main room, DJ Turbulence in Heart of OMNIA and Fabian on the outdoor terrace. Harris is expected to take the stage around midnight to help ring in 2018, which is earlier than he goes on most nights. How lucky for you!
Three Venues to Party
As we’ve long known, OMNIA’s secret weapons are its size and versatility. The entryway leads into the behemoth nightclub—75,000 square feet, the largest in Hakkasan Group’s Strip portfolio—but the party isn’t reserved to the main room.
Heart of OMNIA, if you can believe it, is the “intimate” space just down a hallway from the main club. “Intimate” is in quotes because Heart was forged in the space previously occupied by Pure (remember Pure?), one of the Strip’s best nightclubs in the mid-aughts.
Pure was famous for its Strip-side terrace, and that is one of the biggest things OMNIA has going for it on New Year’s Eve. The terrace, just up the steps from the main club, features a DJ booth on one end and a bar on the other, with a premier view of Las Vegas Boulevard—from The Venetian to just beyond Planet Hollywood.
This is where you want to be at midnight, watching those fireworks blast off and counting your lucky stars you’re not in the middle of that Strip crowd. It’s cold out there, but you have heat lamps on the terrace and a nice, warm club calling your name.
Happy New Year.
