Wildly Inspired by Baz – A Musical Mash-Up

Vegas Seven, The Animal Foundation and "Baz–A Musical Mash-Up" are celebrating National Puppy Day with a bunch of party animals that are forever young at heart.

National Puppy Day is March 23 and in honor of all those cute, lovable, furry friends that make our hearts melt, The Animal Foundation lent Vegas Seven an all-star cast of adoptable creatures costumed like the characters from Baz – A Musical Mash-Up at The Palazzo. The show features the music from the films of Baz Luhrmann, including Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby.

The Animal Foundation is a nonprofit organization, located on an 8-acre campus that houses adoptable pets, all lost and found animals, and a low-cost wellness clinic. Their mission is to create a “humane and compassionate community for all animals [and to] save the lives of all healthy and treatable animals in the Las Vegas Valley.” Founded in 1978, it is the highest volume single-site animal shelter in America, saving more than 25,000 lost, homeless and mistreated animals.

Baz’s Jay Gatsby and Daisy with Hunter, a four-year-old tricolor American Foxhound and Summer, a four-year-old miniature poodle.

Doug who plays Jay Gatsby is a Las Vegas Academy alumni and has performed on Broadway in Beautiful and toured nationally playing “Billy” in Dirty Dancing. Allie who plays the lead role of Daisy has performed in the Broadway show 13 by Jason Robert Brown and the Roundabout Theater Company’s revival of Bye Bye Birdie.

Baz’s Romeo and Juliet with QT, a five-year-old mixed breed dog, likely a combination of Pitbull and American Bulldog, and Victoria, a four-year-old Pomeranian.

Timyra-Joi has been with Baz playing the lead role of Juliet since the show opened in July 2016. She started singing at the age of two. In 2013, she was one of the 12 finalists on Christina Aguilera’s team on NBC’s The Voice.

Ian is a native of San Diego and plays the role of Romeo in Baz. He received the first “Outstanding Young Artist” award from the San Diego Critics Circle and has worked in New York City at Radio City Music Hall, in Los Angeles at La Mirada Theatre in American Idiot, and overseas in Rock of Ages on Norwegian Cruise Lines. He is also a songwriter, producer and guitarist.

Baz’s Satine and Christian with Chase, an 11-week-old German Shepherd-mix puppy and Charlie, a three-year-old miniature poodle.

Playing the lead role of Christian, Brad has also performed in Broadway’s first a cappella musical In Transit at the Circle in the Square Theater and has also toured Europe with the musical Hair, as well as with his original music.

As a result of the photo shoot, Anne, who plays Satine, adopted the Animal Foundation’s Victoria and now calls her Gigi. Anne holds a MFA in Theatre Practice from London UK’s CSSD and a BFA in Acting from SUNY Fredonia.
