With its fifth annual minUMENTAL INVITATIONAL, Trifecta Gallery, located in the Arts Factory (107 E. Charleston St., 366-7001) makes being a local art lover so easy that it almost takes away the snob value. The month-long art show (through Dec. 24) is based on a nifty little concept: Bring together 26 artists and have them all make mini versions of whatever it is they usually create.
This exercise allows for a convenient survey of Trifecta artists, and it’s also a way to own original art at rock-bottom prices. For example, the normally expansive (and expensive) local artist Biscuit Street Preacher offers 8-by-8-inch acrylic-on-wood paintings made to look like records for $100 a piece. If you missed Thomas Bakofsky’s recent Trifecta show, you have a second chance to enjoy his beautifully morbid acrylic on paper paintings such as Skull Krinkle Fries, which at 11-inches by 11-inches is priced at $450. Other notable artists include Jerry Misko, Anthony Freda, Casey Weldon, Miguel Rodriguez and Dave Barnes.
The Dec. 2 show opening also happened to be the official Grand Opening for Trifecta’s newish 1,200-square-foot space, complete with a ribbon-cutting by Mayor Oscar Goodman. But if you missed the opening, you can re-enact your own with Kristen Peterson’s 10-inch pipe cleaner sculpture of Mayor Goodman for $275.
