One of the best things about Las Vegas is that you can play golf year-round. It makes sense then that the Golf Fest Vegas will be held this late in the year at Angel Park Golf Club (100 S. Rampart Blvd.). Starting at 9 a.m. golf enthusiasts will be able to sample the newest advances in golf equipment, attire and products direct from major manufacturers. PGA pros will be on hand to give free lessons, the driving range will be open to test out the newest drivers, and there will also be a trick-shot demonstration. Well, not really, but the festivities are starting with the 17th annual cactus lighting event at the Botanical Cactus Gardens at Ethel M Chocolates near Mountain Vista Street and Sunset Way. The unique three-acre garden contains some 300 varieties of cacti draped with more than 500,000 brilliant lights that will bring the desert alive at night. When Marty Howard learned that he was assigned to Nellis Air Force Base after being drafted in 1970, the New Jersey native was sure he would die in the desert heat. But once he landed in Las Vegas, Howard knew he was home.
