Hawkins, Rebels stay on roll with rout of Canisius

Junior guard comes off bench, continues to shine

Two weeks ago, UNLV junior guard Justin Hawkins was facing a sink-or-swim scenario for the first time in his collegiate career.

After two seasons as a defensive specialist off of the bench for the Rebels, the 6-foot-3 Los Angeles native needed to find some balance in his game. If he didn't within first-year coach Dave Rice's uptempo system, his spot in the rotation may have been at risk after not too long.

Pull It Down

Mike Moser, the newest addition to the UNLV basketball lineup, has already changed the trajectory of games and captured the imaginations of fans—and he isn’t even comfortable yet. In UNLV’s 83-66 season-opening victory over Grand Canyon Nov. 11, the sophomore UCLA transfer finished with 16 points and 20 rebounds. He looked primed for another 20-rebound outing in a 71-67 victory Nov. 14 over rival University of Nevada, Reno, pulling down 10 in the first half, only to land in foul trouble and spend much of the second half on the bench.

Despite an opening night flop, UNR presents UNLV with a tough test
