The Film Tax Credit

Earlier this year, our state government offered a 15 percent tax credit to film and television productions shot in Nevada, and several such productions are already happening because of it: Lola Pictures recently shot a Dakota Fanning film in and around Las Vegas, and a sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop is set to film at the Wynn. In Fanning’s untitled movie, she plays a roadie for an ’80s punk band, which sounds like the kind of indie fare that could benefit from a tax break—and the kind of flick that could help dispel the stereotype of Las Vegas as a Hangover-or-nothing film location.
