In a city defined by its mind-blowing volume, consistency is an ever-present challenge. Sure, it’s great to “have a guy” at that bar you love, the one who makes “omigod, the best drinks.” But in all honesty, every drink from every bartender at that bar should be equally good—it’s just a matter of training and a commitment to consistency. Bartender Adam O’Donnell from Gordon Ramsay Pub in Caesars Palace has those traits in abundance, and he proved it last month in the second annual Bols Best Bartender competition staged by Vegas Seven and Bols Bartending Academy.
The search began with a written exam, the top 10 scorers of which moved into the accuracy and speed rounds. The top five then advanced to a mixology round, before three finalists moved on to the live practical event June 24 at BLVD Cocktail Company at the Linq. Through it all, it was O’Donnell’s consistency—of both scores and demeanor—that carried him to victory.
