From the ordinary (CES, Nightclub and Bar) to the bizarre (Rollercon, World of Concrete), no city does conventions like Las Vegas. But perhaps the most awe-inspiring is the construction trade show ConExpo-Con/Ag. Once every three years, the parking spaces and empty lots surrounding the Las Vegas Convention Center turn into a scene straight out of a Transformers movie. Passers-by gawk at 20-ton tractors, cranes that stand taller than the Palazzo and lifters that look the High Roller in the eye. It’s a herd of metal monsters that elicit open-mouthed astonishment from people of all ages—and serve to remind us of the kind of brawn that’s needed to build those Goliaths on Las Vegas Boulevard.
