Lonnie Hammargren’s Nevada Day Open House

God bless the good doctor for allowing us to parade through his three-homes-in-one, multilevel 17,200-square-foot dwelling each year to celebrate our state’s admission to the Union. His eclectic collection of treasures, oddities and borderline trash is as colorful as the 76-year-old Hammargren, a retired neurosurgeon and former Nevada lieutenant governor, who also was a flight surgeon in Vietnam and for NASA’s Apollo program. You can even visit his preferred final resting place: a sarcophagus in an Egyptian-style chamber beneath his house.
