Gelato Messina puts a distinctively Aussie spin on the cold Italian treat. This is its first U.S. location, but read some reviews online, and you’ll quickly learn about its cult-like following Down Under. The shop is bursting with color—from the original mural to the 40 kinds of gelato and sorbets waiting to be sampled. There’s nothing traditional about Messina: The five flavor specials, which switch out each week, have sassy names such as Candy Warhol and Robert Brownie Jr. All the gelato and mix-ins are made in-house; in fact, you can watch the magic happen at the exhibition kitchen.
