We don’t know exactly who proposed it, but they must have had a mighty spreadsheet backing them up. Earlier this year, MGM Resorts International slapped a price tag on a long-held Strip perk: free parking. Customer reaction was predictably intense, with numerous threatened boycotts. Since the rollout, however, there has been mostly silence on the issue, with other operators presumably seeing how it plays out. Will free parking go the way of the 99-cent shrimp cocktail, or will it fade faster than New Coke? As with any hospitality business, the customers have the final word, and what they say will dictate the future of free parking Strip-wide.
