When the New Frontier closed and was demolished in 2007, it was supposed to make way for a Las Vegas edition of New York’s Plaza Hotel. Like Fontainebleau and Echelon, that project became a casualty of the recession. Oaktree Capital Management and Crown Resorts acquired the site in 2014, and since then work has commenced—slowly—on Alon. Unlike some other new projects, this one is flying well below the radar, but should turn heads when the wrappers come off. With one of the most experienced executive teams in town, led by former Wynn Las Vegas President Andrew Pascal at the helm, Alon will make waves—when it’s time to swim.
