Midtown is primed to become something big and special. UNLV’s campus is expanding even as we speak. The Boulevard Mall is being transformed into a quirky retail and entertainment center whose future tenants could include everything from a farmers market to an aquarium. Residents of the Paradise Palms neighborhood are slowly but surely restoring the mid-century modern glamour of its vintage homes. And the Regional Transportation Commission is planning a possible streetcar route that could run the length of Maryland Parkway, from McCarran International Airport to Downtown. If that happens, it’s likely that Maryland’s underutilized properties and dead lots will give way to high-density retail and residential properties. In as little as 10 years, and with some luck, Midtown could bloom into something incredible.
