In 2014, the inaugural RiSE Lantern Festival got off to a bumpy start. The event, in which thousands of people release biodegradable paper lanterns into the night’s sky, dazzled attendees. However, their joy was quickly snuffed when issues with the shuttle service left many stranded on the Jean Dry Lake Bed until the early hours of the morning. Fortunately, co-founder Dan Hill didn’t make the same mistake the following year. This year, it will be held at the Moapa River Reservation on October 7-8.
