The Believer Magazine

Las Vegas does not necessarily come to mind as a literary city, among the likes of, say, New York or San Francisco. But that’s about to change. The Believer magazine, one of the world’s leading journals of arts and culture, has a new home at Black Mountain Institute under the guidance of BMI executive director Joshua Wolf Shenk and deputy director Kellen Braddock. Just how much of a game changer is this for our city? It will certainly put Las Vegas in the forefront of the literary scene, attracting more applicants to the UNLV creative writing program (a new nonfiction track is set to accept students in the fall of 2019). And as far as literary events go, let’s just say that we predict people will be coming here more for author readings than for DJs. (Or at least we hope.)
