Vesta’s Dark ’N’ Stormy

This nonalcoholic morning pick-me-up marries two vices into one: coffee and mixology. A freshly pulled double shot of Vesta’s in-house roasted espresso is floated over 6 ounces of Gosling’s Ginger Beer (of course) and cube ice, and is then topped with just a dash of grapefruit bitters. The happy result is a long, cool refresher ($6) that beautifully introduces dark-roasted coffee in place of dark rum, and lets the gentle sweetness and spice of the ginger beer and natural dilution do their work. The aromatic citrus lift also provides a nice attitude adjustment for all you “I’m not a morning person” people. The drink that began as an off-menu experiment joins other new offerings, including the Espresoda (house citrus mix, sparkling water, basil-infused simple syrup and a single shot of espresso; $5.50) and the Matcharita (iced matcha tea, house citrus mix and basil-infused simple syrup; $5).
