Best Coffeehouse That Makes You Feel Like You’re in a Big City
July 28th, 2011
Coffeehouse people just get other coffeehouse people—they know exactly what is required to evoke that atmosphere of sophisticated caffeine-fueled eccentricity. The husband-wife team of Michael and Jennifer Cornthwaite are just such people, so you will often see them posted up at the counter at The Beat, reading about art or banging away on a laptop, hip-to-hip with other downtown scenesters. There’s vinyl on the turntable, the coffee is roasted by Boulder City’s Colorado River roasters, the art is created just steps away in the Emergency Arts co-op studios, there’s a large corner window for viewing urban life at the intersection of Fremont and Sixth, and the venue throws itself into every community involvement that makes sense for its loyal crowd. It really does take one to know one.
