His story: At 3 years old, Ri-yan told his mom to find him a modeling agency. From there he appeared in TV shows such as Criss Angel Mindfreak and Rachael Ray as well as independent films. As his passion for entertainment grew, he took up break-dancing and performed at high-profile events with the Rock Skittles Crew. In 2009 he decided he wanted to DJ, because “the DJ controls everything.” After a few lessons from a local pro, Ri-yan picked up the basics, and within three months “The World’s Youngest DJ” was born. DJ Baby Chino, as he calls himself, has spun hip-hop and R&B at nightclubs around the country, including a weekly gig at Beacher’s Madhouse in Hollywood, where celebs such as Kid Rock and Kelly Osbourne have jumped onstage with him. He plays at major events such as MAGIC, and he is involved in the promotional division of the Dallas Cowboys, who have dubbed him their “unofficial DJ.” Ri-yan—the youngest DJ to be a member of the Core DJs, the world’s largest DJ organization—will be expanding his miles next year, as he plans to go international.
School: Homeschooled (and he Skypes with his teacher while on the road)
Extras: Ri-yan and his parents, who manage his career, make sure to give back to the community. DJ Baby Chino performs at events run by nonprofits such as Communities in Schools, the Boys and Girls Club, and After-School All-Stars. He’s also worked with Newsome Marketing Enterprising on Shots 4 Tots events, helping to improve the immunization rate in Clark County.
What he’ll be doing in 10 years: “I want to produce and make beats. I would like to be an actor and maybe make some films, like a director. I want to be an ambassador for a charity, too.”
What they’re saying about him: “He is very professional, very in tune with the music world, and his age brings a tremendous amount of attention that really puts it over the top,” says Sam Cherry, owner of The Lady Silvia lounge, who booked Baby Chino for a recent fundraiser. “I thought it would be entertaining just looking at ‘The World’s Youngest DJ,’ but with his energy onstage—he dances, he emcees—it’s pretty good.” – Natalie Holbrook
