Girl Talk at the Boulevard Pool
It was freezing March 25, with wind cutting through every nook at the Cosmo's Boulevard Pool, and all of our crannies. And here comes producer Gregg Gillis, marching out onstage in a blue hoodie, headband and giant, metaphorical eff-you to both Mother Nature and record-industry sampling laws. That night's Girl Talk show had more energy than the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, with Gillis cutting through his normal ADD mash-ups with fresh new mixes that kept everyone in the crowd from fleeing to a warm, safe haven. His spastic onstage flailing was met by toilet paper-cannon theatrics and relentless, punishing beats for nearly two hours. You didn't notice until the end that you were shivering even harder, soaked in a cold sweat.
