Location: Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Festival hours: 7 p.m.-5:30 a.m. June 8-10.
Expected attendance: More than 300,000 during the course of the weekend.
Tickets: As expected, EDC sold out weeks in advance. Blame scalpers for scooping up extra tickets and reselling online. Your best bet for finding tickets is via StubHub or Facebook, through people who may have had friends ditch out.
Getting there: Shuttle passes are also sold out, but you can find a new carpool buddy through the EDC-recommended ZimRide.com.
Staying away from there: Avoid Interstate 15 and Las Vegas Boulevard heading out to the Speedway. Not only will you encounter congestion as attendees head to EDC, but expect even more of a backup for a few miles heading into town when everyone leaves at the same time, causing a headache for your Monday-morning commute.
Festival details: Download the official Electric Daisy Carnival app to create your own schedule, have a handy festival map, learn about the DJs and more.
EDC Week: The first EDMbiz conference focusing on the business of electronic music continues through June 7 at the Cosmopolitan, bringing with it a plethora of parties in conjunction with what is being dubbed “EDC Week” in Las Vegas. Check out Page 52 for the rundown.

Fabulous Fedde
DJ/producer Fedde le Grand looks back on Las Vegas and forward to Electric Daisy Carnival
May 31st, 2012
First he told fans to “Put Your Hands Up” for your favorite city. He then encouraged us to get “Freaky,” among other lushly saturated electro-goodness offerings. Dutch dance-music maestro Fedde le Grand still has a handle on keeping it fresh in an often formulaic world. Coming in at No. 14 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll, and with two new International Dance Music Awards, he’ll be rocking it next at Electric Daisy Carnival on June 8 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Cocktail Culture
Peace. Love. Unity. Cocktails!
June 7th, 2012
Writers and spirits go hand in hand. Or, rather, glass in hand. The Cosmopolitan’s mixology team hit the books and then hit the bars seeking literary and spiritual inspiration (the beverage kind), the ultimate goal being to capture in a glass the essence of the monumental sensory tidal wave that is the Electric Daisy Carnival (June 8-10 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway). Drink in their results. Read more »

Art is more than a sideshow at EDC, as the new two-ton baby proves
June 7th, 2012
Amid the multimedia spectacle that is the Electric Daisy Carnival, one aspect truly separates it from other musical festivals: the colossal art structures dotting the landscape at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This year, there’ll be a fire-breathing octopus made of steel (“El Pulpo Mecanico” by Duane Flatmo), a giant snake that spews flames (“Serpent Mother” by Flaming Lotus Girls) and a 30-foot-tall baby with a video monitor for a head (“Omma,” a creation by Berkeley, Calif.-based artist Michael Christian). An EDM glossary for n00bs
June 7th, 2012
If you’re just jumping on the dayglow electronic dance music bus, it’s important to know a big part of the scene is the culture and sense of community. To avoid looking like a total n00b (that’s “newbie,” in case you didn’t know) when conversing, you can study up on the DJs, download mixes and pair your best pasties with a tutu. But that isn’t enough to be accepted by the dedicated—as the Showtek track goes—“motherfucking raver with the hardstyle flavor.” Read more »

Go hard or go home: EDC 2012 is a (windy) wrap
June 14th, 2012
Like moths to music, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway welcomed more than 300,000 attendees June 8-10 for the 2012 Electric Daisy Carnival by Insomniac Events. About Town
The Old Man and the EDC
June 14th, 2012
Yeah, I remember the last time electronic music was supposed to take over America. Back in my day, in the 1990s, people called it “electronica,” and magazines like Rolling Stone were raving about pioneering British DJs/producers with names like Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers. I wasn’t immune from the hype, buying the Crystal Method’s CD Vegas and occasionally partying on the Strip at Club Utopia. But I soon realized that the pulsating untz untz untz and tension-and-release moments only annoyed me the longer I listened to them, no matter my level of sobriety. Read more »

The Week
The Worst Night Ever?
June 13th, 2012
Earlier in the week, the reservation system for all MGM Resorts International hotels apparently gave up the ghost; thousands of check-ins, who had paid premium rates for such a slamming weekend, waited up to 12 hours to get their rooms—definitely something that would try the patience of even the most laid-back visitor. Then the big title fight ended with a eyeball-defying split decision for Timothy Bradley over Manny Pacquiao that left even the promoter, Bob Arum, embarrassed for the sport. Finally, the Electric Daisy Carnival had to shut down its seven main stages at about 1 a.m. Sunday because of high winds. Read more »
