If you’ve managed to make it all these years without getting on a trapeze, Shine Alternative Fitness has a new experience lined up for you. Cirque du Soleil performer Dima Shine and Zumanity assistant company manager Russ Petroni recently opened the gym in the southwest Valley, and they’ve built it around the kind of acrobatics that made Cirque famous.
Along with aerial arts (read: trapeze) and pole fitness (for men, too!), Shine’s signature class is Antigravity Yoga, which takes elements of traditional yoga and adds a silk sheet suspended from the ceiling into a sort of cradle. During the class, you lie in it, use it to stretch, hang your legs from it and do push-ups and even hang upside down completely supported by it—for 75 minutes, it’s your best friend.
And, while the class seems relaxed, just know a slow burn will come—and it’ll stay for days.
