Video as a legitimate art form? It’s happening in a new, phone-booth-size space downtown called Multiplexer that’s in its second show, Intercept 2:7. The show has eight video installations that challenge the boundaries of technology and art; expect to see things you normally wouldn’t on a screen. Charlie Chaplin’s 1936 masterpiece Modern Times is considered the last silent picture, but it’s also hailed as a daring, political statement about the dehumanizing effects of industrialization. Plus it’s just damn-good slapstick. The Springs Preserve has the mix down cold for its third Brews & Blues Festival from 4-8 p.m. at the Springs Amphitheater: hot weather, cold craft-brewed beer, smokin’ blues and Las Vegas’ best outdoor ambience in which to enjoy it all. $35 in advance, $40 at the gate, SpringsPreserve.org.

What began 20 years ago as the screening of a single short film for an audience of 200 in Australia has grown into Tropfest, the world’s largest short-film festival. Tropfest makes its American debut at the Cosmopolitan, opening with a party Friday and ending today with the “all-star” competition to pick the best of the best from two decades of entries. In Italy, Carnevale is a winter celebration preceding Easter. In Las Vegas, it’s a three-month summer promotion at the Venetian and Palazzo. There’s nothing we can’t co-opt. June is Carnevale “art month,” and both resorts will be thick with artisans, living installations, art walks and demonstrations, free and open to the public beginning today.

In Our Digital Selves, Las Vegas artist Danny Roberts explores how such things as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are transforming human interaction and identity.
