Findlay Prep senior forward Anthony Bennett.
Four members of UNLV's loaded freshman class began classes on campus on Monday, when the school's third and final session of summer courses began.
The most notable member of Dave Rice's 2012 recruiting haul, though, is still at home.
Former Findlay Prep star Anthony Bennett, who Rivals.com ranked as the No. 7 overall recruit in the 2012 senior class, is still in Toronto, waiting to be cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
The 6-foot-7 McDonald's All-American graduated from Findlay Prep and has been admitted to UNLV, but the NCAA is still in the process of reviewing his transcript.
"Anthony has been admitted to UNLV," Rice said. "We are submitting all the documents that the NCAA Eligibility Center needs to certify him."
Sources with knowledge of the situation remain confident that Bennett will ultimately be cleared by the NCAA in time for the fall semester. Because Bennett attended multiple high schools and is an international student who attended school in both the U.S. and Canada, he is subject to additional review by the NCAA.
But due to the timing of the situation, it appears highly unlikely that Bennett will be able to take part in UNLV's foreign tour in Canada, which features four exhibition games during a one-week trip that begins on Aug. 16. The team will be allowed 10 days of practice starting on Aug. 4 in preparation for the trip.
Incoming freshmen must be cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center and must complete summer school courses in order to travel. According to UNLV admissions, July 10 — Tuesday — was the final day for late enrollment in the third and final summer session.
The rest of UNLV's 2012 freshman class includes Katin Reinhardt, Daquan Cook, Savon Goodman and Demetris Morant. All four moved in on campus last weekend. They also participated on Tuesday night in the final round of games at the Desert Reign Pro-City Summer League at Sawyer Middle School.
