Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) sophomore big man Chase Jeter is just starting to emerge as a high-caliber prospect after performing well in showcases over the summer. The 6-foot-8 power forward was co-MVP at the Fullcourt Press All Frosh/Soph Camp (along with fellow Gorman sophomore Stephen Zimmerman), and on Thursday he was offered a scholarship by UNLV.

I talked to Jeter after the offer was made to get his take on UNLV and recruiting in general.

Q&A with UNLV target Chase Jeter

RunRebs: How was your trip to UNLV on Thursday?

Chase Jeter: It was an unofficial visit. I just kind of watched practice, took it in. I met most of the players afterward. Most of them came up and shook my hand, so I got to say hi to them. It was good.

RunRebs: Were you offered a scholarship?

Chase Jeter: Yeah, I sat down in coach Rice's office with him, and he said there's been a scholarship offered for me. He said UNLV will always be in the picture for my recruiting process. He said they'll always recruit me hard, but they won't be the type that's going to keep bugging me all the time. So I appreciated that.

RunRebs: How would you describe yourself as a player?

Chase Jeter: I think my game is really starting to get to the next level. I'm a good post guy. I have a lot of post moves. I'm not always the most physical person, but I'm aggressive, so I can beat guys in the post.

RunRebs: What are some of your goals for this season?

Chase Jeter: As far as the team, I want to win another state championship. Individually, I want to work on my offensive rebounding.

RunRebs: Is your recruitment starting to heat up?

Chase Jeter: Yeah, over the summer and recently it's been picking up. I played in one camp in California and did well, and it really kind of took off from there.

RunRebs: What were some of the first schools to offer you?

Chase Jeter: Arizona, Oregon State, and now UNLV is right there.

RunRebs: When do you see yourself making a decision on college?

Chase Jeter: I think I'd like to wait toward the end of my senior year, just to make sure I can talk to everyone and make the right decision.
