The details: Although Unica’s popularity stems from its e-commerce website (Unicahome.com features more than 6,000 items), its stand-alone store doesn’t disappoint. It feels like a design museum, with a showroom that exhibits the best in contemporary furniture and accessories catering to each room in your home. The 12,000-square-foot (seriously huge!) store takes you on a captivating tour, from the elegant and eco-friendly outdoor furniture by California’s Mamagreen to chic Alessi kitchen accessories and Missoni’s decorative couch cushions. There’s even a pets section where quirky dog bowls reside. And don’t forget to check out the kids section, where you’ll find Playsam products. Take a seat in the showroom’s central bookstore, often used for signings, while you debate what cool products will go where in your home.
Shop there if … you have a passion for eccentric artistic home design and if your favorite resident designers include Missoni Home, Alessi, Chilewich or Le Creuset.
Don’t leave the store without … the eco-friendly Mamagreen Mazzamiz table and six chairs, $3,527; the Missoni Home Cordula Chaise, $4,640; or the Kristall Table by Michele De Lucchi for Memphis 1981, $2,549.
