Creating a whimsical world is just another day in the life for the artists, technicians and employees putting on nightly shows on the Strip, but for one night a year their focus turns away
from the showroom and toward a philanthropic cause. Circus Couture is a non-profit organization with designs on defeating pediatric cancer, and the organization puts together an annual spectacle of all things odd to raise money for research and treatment.
This year’s extravaganza on Oct. 28 turns The Smith Center for the Performing Arts into “86 Peculiar Place” a destination where standing out is the norm, and being ordinary just won’t do. The “residents” of this address put on over-the-top circus performances, and don exotic outfits for a runway show-meets-big-top experience. Costumes designed out of alternative materials by Jennifer Henry of FlockFlockFlock, and presentations from entertainers plucked directly off the Strip give the gala a very Vegas twist.
The night also features a live and silent auction, and all the proceeds benefit St. Baldrick’s and The Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disease of Las Vegas. Since its inception in 2009, Circus Couture has raised more than $250,000 to combat cancer.
