Sisqo Still Wants to See That Thong at 1 Oak

    By Camille Cannon

We won’t tell anyone if you know all the words to the “Thong Song.” (Because we’re totally guilty, too.) But we will let you know that Sisqo himself will perform at 1 Oak. It may be tempting to go pantless apropos of the tune, but be mindful that the dress code is still in effect.

Fabled Tables: The Top Real Estate in Your Favorite Clubs

    By Camille Cannon

“Location, location, location.” You’re probably familiar with the three most important tenets of real estate. Las Vegas nightclubs are no exception. While every inch of these clubs possess that magical combination of liquor and luxury, some seats reign supreme over others. Here’s where the rich and famous like to sit and sip.

The World Is 1 Oak’s When Nas Does Set

    By Camille Cannon

Rapper Nas has had plenty of reasons to celebrate lately. This month marked the 20th anniversary of his revered album, Illmatic, and the opening of his sneaker boutique, 12AM Run, at the Linq. Pop a bottle in his honor when he takes the mic at 1 Oak.

    1 Oak Adds Afterhours

    By Kate Stowell

In a city known for throwing the never-ending party, what happens when the party actually does end? Currently, only a handful of clubs have made it their business to keep the drinks flowing, the music bouncing and the booties shaking well past sunrise. And the latest club to make its foray into the afterhours-nightclub scene is Light Group’s 1 Oak in The Mirage.

Absinthe Celebrates 1,000th Show with Brains

    By Jason Scavone

Absinthe marked its 1,000th show the way any 2-year-old Las Vegas institution would—by having cast members dress up as a bunch of zombies and hitting the club. In Walking Dead-worthy makeup, they were at Pure on March 28, celebrating the occasion by feasting on brains and/or cake. … 1 Oak brought in Kendrick Lamar to do “Swimming Pools,” “Ignorance is Bliss” and “Soul” on March 29. Before he went onstage, he loaded up with Hennessey, Grey Goose and champagne even though he only stayed a couple of hours. We like the cut of his jib.

    1 Oak Lures in Legend

    By Jason Scavone

Mirage nightclub 1 Oak celebrated its birthday the same way JFK celebrated his: By having someone croon “Happy Birthday” to them. And look how well that turned out for Kennedy. (Fine. Too soon.) John Legend was subbing for originally scheduled performer 2 Chainz on February 22 when he came in to mark the occasion, doing “Green Light,” among other songs.

Laaaasers. You can’t have a Las Vegas nightclub without a grip of ’em. Subsequently, 1 Oak has added the most major one to its roster with Wes Pentz (also familiar to electronic fans as Diplo), Walshy Fire and Jillionaire. Collectively they’re known by their single cartoon avatar, Major Lazer, a fictitious Jamaican renegade who was outfitted with prosthetic lasers after losing his arm in the Zombie War of the ’80s.

Where East Meets Best: 1 Oak

Las Vegas lucked out last year when it welcomed New York import 1 Oak Nightclub to the former Jet space in The Mirage. Actually, it was a lot more than just luck that led to the 16,000-square-foot space’s sophisticated makeover. As featured in last year’s awards (VegasSeven.com/NightlifeIssue/2011), it was the fortuitous collaboration of New York’s elite the Butter Group and Las Vegas royalty, the Light Group, that brought the Avalon Sound system to life in an all-new design set off by artwork from Roy Nachum.

  • Deadmau5, Kat Von D Together at iHeart

    By David Morris

With iHeart Radio in town the celebs turned out in droves. On Thursday Justin Timberlake was first spotted at Tryst Nightclub where he was rolling deep with 20 bros in what definitely appeared to be a bachelor party -- his. The group was drinking vodka and Timberlake’s own 901 Tequila from a table on the dance floor after dining at Theo Shoenegger’s Sinatra. JT and company also hit up Surrender Nightclub’s Splash Dance party.

    Rumored Mafia Residency

    By Jason Scavone

The next big residence at Wynn clubs could be Swedish House Mafia, who gave up their standing Monday summer gig at Pacha in Ibiza recently. Rumors have the DJ trio landing at XS and Surrender in the coming months. … Proof that if there is a God, he definitely hates the rest of us: Paris Hilton Tweeted Feb. 18 that she won $30,000 at the Wynn playing blackjack. … After the Ali gala, Diddy, Common and Lenny Kravitz all flooded 1 Oak to perform.

    Perry Leads 1OAK Grand Opening

    By Jason Scavone

You may think you’ve been going to 1 Oak for the past year, but that’s just been like going to an old, abandoned church and telling everyone you’re up to date on confession. Now, though, it’s official: The Mirage’s new joint has been pop-culture consecrated. Katy Perry came in Jan. 27 for the club’s official grand opening. You may now shed the secret shame you held for visiting a venue in the throes of soft opening.

Cobra Starship, Capriotti’s and Crazy Horse III

    By Jason Scavone

There to check out Cobra Starship’s performance at 1 Oak on Jan. 20 were Jessica Alba and Haylie Duff, in town for a Chanel event. Because no one makes it a point to travel just to hear Cobra Starship… Capriotti’s is embroiled in a lawsuit with one of its stores over an unauthorized Crazy Horse III promotion where happy-hour customers could get a 6-inch sub and a beer for $5.

Hey, you remember that hot second when Dr. Dre did another song with Eminem and it looked like Detox might actually come out? Suckers! Dre is still tinkering with headphones. In town once again for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Dre was plugging Beats by Dre ’phones by day and turning up at 1 Oak by night on Jan. 12, along with Interscope guru Jimmy Iovine.
