Absinthe Celebrates 1,000th Show with Brains
April 3rd, 2013
Absinthe marked its 1,000th show the way any 2-year-old Las Vegas institution would—by having cast members dress up as a bunch of zombies and hitting the club. In Walking Dead-worthy makeup, they were at Pure on March 28, celebrating the occasion by feasting on brains and/or cake. Read more »

“Love Bite,” Melody Sweets
January 20th, 2013
Not to be confused with the Def Leppard power ballad “Love Bites,” Absinthe burlesque singer Melody Sweets turns the verb into a noun for her serpent-in-the-garden, Arabian-scaled, electro-puff pop tune “Love Bite.” A sexy snake—or a man-hungry Eve looking to swallow Adam(s) whole—Sweets frolics in the desert with what looks like the on-loan, all-beefcake cast of Chippendales at Rio (actually, it’s the male cast members of Absinthe). Absinthe’s Green Fairy makes her own melody
January 17th, 2013
On this weekday morning in the Burlesque Hall of Fame, Melody Sweets looks like a rocker chick with an incongruous interest. Her black-leather jacket contrasts with the feathery pink puff adorning her hair, long dangly earrings and glamorous makeup. As she flits from display to display, a graceful elfin enthusiasm reveals this fan of the art to also be a participant. Read more »

A toast to Absinthe’s 500th
April 19th, 2012
Damn thing was freaky and filthy. Made me blush. Gave me the creeps. Offended my senses. Caused me to fear for the safety of others. Had me giving last rites to the concept of class. Made me spill my drink. I loved it. How the hell did that happen? Read more »

Ivana Be a Star
A chat with the unknown and uncoordinated Absinthe duo
November 24th, 2011
Ivan and Ivana added an act to their repertoire when Absinthe returned with a new tent in late October. In this one, the silks are ditched in favor of a lyrical “acro-ballet” duet that most resembles the climatic dance from Dirty Dancing as reinterpreted through the eyes of a perverted and uncoordinated Richard Simmons. While the accident-prone acrobats may not get recognized in Boston Pizza just yet, they are poised to steal their share of the spotlight. And in honor of the feat, the (allegedly) Russian-born Chekov-Joneses broke breadsticks with Vegas Seven for their first exclusive interview. Read more »

Imagine falling down a rabbit hole, where the titillations of a Vegas show twisted into the absinthe-fueled dream of an Eastern European prince squandering his inheritance on the most opulent diversions the early 20th century could offer. Read more »

Sea bass, Absinthe and a taste of Peru
June 2nd, 2011
If you’re familiar with the lounge duo Zowie Bowie, you might have a hard time imagining Chris Phillips and Marley Taylor trading Top 40s for the standards. But that’s what they do once a week on Sundays in the Vintage Vegas Show at Green Valley Ranch. Donning tuxes and evening gowns, they perform oldies such as “The Lady Is a Tramp’ and “Bei Mir Bist du Schoen.” Not convinced? There are also 12 to 16 live musicians onstage on any given Sunday, most coming from other shows. Lon Bronson from the Lon Bronson Band sits in, and trumpet-master David Perrico conducts. That by itself is worth the 10-spot cover. Read more »

Books, buffets and beverages
May 12th, 2011
Caesars Entertainment’s “Buffet of Buffets” 24-hour pass has added an option to include the Rio’s Village Seafood buffet for an additional $15. The base pass costs $45, and the seafood buffet is $39 by itself, so that leaves $21 to make back with visits to as many Caesars Entertainment buffets as you can over the course of the rest of the 24-hour period. Absinthe
April 7th, 2011
April 1 was INDEED a day for foolishness and frivolity, marking another gala premiere night for a show on the Strip. Seats were jammed with casino execs, production insiders, local celebs and media in a—get this—tent situated between Serendipity 3 and Caesars Palace. That was my first clue that Absinthe will stand out in today’s Cirque-dominated entertainment scene. Read more »
