Concert Review: The Gashers

Double Down Saloon, Jan. 25

It was an outrageous punk-rock birthday bash as SquidHat Records celebrated its one-year anniversary with an extravaganza headlined by the Gashers. The latest incarnation of local legends the Peccadilloes, the Gashers took the stage at 2 a.m. and attempted to whip up the crowd after a series of kick-ass preceding acts (Surrounded by Thieves, Guilty by Association, Candy Warpop and Pet Tigers). Sea Wolf

Beauty Bar, Jan. 18

Without a word, the touring indie-folk quintet sailed straight into “You’re a Wolf” from 2007 debut album Leaves in the River. Alternating intro-guitar notes elicited screams and whistles before drummer Joey Ficken even dropped the first beat of the California outfit’s most recognizable song. Read more »

Hard Rock Café on the Strip, Jan. 16

The Jennifer Keith Quintet

Chandelier Bar at the Cosmopolitan, Jan. 12

This band’s residency is classing up an already-classy joint. On this night, the Southern California import commanded attention: Every seat around the bar was taken, and onlookers stood well into the casino floor. Looking like a pinup doll in a luscious red cocktail dress, Keith exuded an elegance bordering on fragility. Read more »

The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel, Dec. 30

Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney treated a capacity crowd to the first of two nights of gritty rock ’n’ roll. The Keys, joined by touring members Gus Seyffert and John Wood, came out firing with “Howlin’ for You” and “Next Girl” off the triple-Grammy-winning album Brothers. Read more »
