    What Otto Knows

Having grown up with Avicii and been subsequently mentored by Swedish House Mafia’s Sebastian Ingrosso, DJ/producer Otto Jettman certainly seems to know all the right people. We recently got the lowdown on his production process, tour-managing for his mentor, Ingrosso, and what it was like to be a part of SHM’s final tour.

    Posso’s Real-Life Fantasy

    By Sam Glaser

Posso means “I can” in Italian, which is fitting for lifelong friends Vanessa Giovacchini and Marylouise Pels, who are having their way with the music and fashion industries. The statuesque BFFs—equal parts beautiful and badass—grew up in wine country in California’s Sonoma Valley, making their cultural influence today all the more unexpected and impressive.

    The Queen of English Electro-Pop

    By Sam Glaser

Starry-eyed 26-year-old singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding has been on a roll since her 2010 debut, Lights, and its international-chart-topping single of the same name. Her signature blend of angelic vocals over electro-leaning melodies has led to collaborations with Skrillex, Zedd and fellow Brit Calvin Harris—accomplishments all trumped by her performance at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Goulding was in town July 26 to do a rare DJ set at Surrender. Before taking the helm, she took some time out from touring with Bruno Mars to answer a few questions.

    Post-Pomp

    By Grace Bascos

At just 27 years old, Adrian Lux (a.k.a. Prinz Adrian Johannes Hynne) has already led two prolific lives, first as a punk-rock guitarist and then as a DJ/producer. His 2010 debut, the indie-heavy track “Teenage Crime,” was nominated for a Grammy. And his latest single, “Damaged,” showcases his crossover appeal. While a lot of electronic-dance-music acts might seek to collaborate with hip-hop artists, Lux joined forces with Swedish indie darling Alva Tang and post-punk guitarist Nico Malmstedt to create this dreamy, harmonious tune.

    Swedish Mixtape

    By Sam Glaser

Sebastian Furrer and Alexander Björklund—the Swedish production duo better known as Cazzette—form the second brainchild of super-manager Ash Pournouri, who first guided Avicii’s remarkable rise. Cazzette’s remixes for Avicii, Adele, Kanye West and Jay-Z have garnered attention for their special blends of dub-y bass and melodic house. The duo cleverly dropped a three-part streaming-only album, Eject, on Spotify—a move that fueled their hype even further. Catch the Wynn Resorts residents’ next performance July 31 at Surrender.

    Prêt-à-Porter

    By Sam Glaser

Porter Robinson is a visionary. He speaks with the same detailed complexity he produces, and has accomplished more in three years than most will in a career. He’s lauded by Tiësto, Skrillex and Deadmau5, and has been called electronic dance music’s savior. By the way, the prodigious producer is just 21 years old. Still, the Wynn Resorts resident’s upcoming album represents a midlife-like pivot toward a more experimental and emotional flavor of electronic music that emphasizes beauty and emotion over dancing and partying—a move that he acknowledges may not even fit into the EDM bucket.

    Swedish House Mavens

    By Sam Glaser

When Rebecca Scheja and Fiona Fitzpatrick met, they were Swedish party girls destined for musical success. Scheja’s father was one of Sweden’s top classical pianists, while Fitzpatrick’s father was one of the leaders in Swedish ’80s synthpop. But don’t let the beauty fool you—these ladies have the energy, production skills and voices to shatter glass ceilings everywhere. See the Tao Group residents August 10 at Marquee Dayclub and August 12 at Marquee Nightclub.

    King of South Beach

    By Sam Glaser

With nightlife in his blood, Marseille native Cedric Gervais started DJing in St. Tropez at age 13. He followed his dream while still a teenager to Miami, where prolific DJ residencies would later earn him the nickname “King of South Beach,” among others. His French influence proved well-suited for the house-friendly Miami scene that was growing into a global dance music destination. Last winter, we spoke with Gervais as he was kicking off his Marquee residency.

    He Could Be the One

    By Sam Glaser

DJ/producer Nicky Romero stunned many in 2012 when he debuted at No. 17 as one of DJ Mag’s highest new entries ever. The latest in a proud line of great Dutchmen, Romero is currently riding arguably the most impressive sequence of collaborations in the industry. He spoke with Vegas Seven backstage right after his main-stage set June 21 at Electric Daisy Carnival. You were one of 2012’s breakthrough artists. Who’s your pick for breakthrough artist of 2013? I think it must be either Dyro or Krewella.

He Just Came to Say ?Bonjour?

    By Sam Glaser

Although Martin Solveig burst into the U.S. mainstream with his 2010 hit, “Hello,” the French DJ/producer has been charting in Europe since the ’90s. After producing three tracks from Madonna’s 2012 MDNA album and amid a worldwide DJ tour, the headbanded Solveig sat down with Vegas Seven to chat about vocals, the French scene and the future of electronic-dance music. The Wynn Resorts resident performs July 13 at XS.

    Smart Music

    By David Morris

Gareth Emery has been consistently proclaimed the U.K.’s top DJ by DJ Magazine, and with bangers such as “Concrete Angel” and “Last Time” to his credit, it’s clear why. With an artist album due out later this year, a new bride and having just helped launch the EDM social media platform Vidiam, he’s certainly busy, although we did manage to catch up with the Marquee resident to download all that he has going on. He plays Marquee Dayclub on June 29. How does being the highest-ranked British DJ affect your approach when you bring your sound to the U.S.?
