Clearing the Air

Dave Fogg rolls back into XS

Dave Fogg has the distinction of both witnessing the city’s progression as one of the top party destinations in the world and having played a part in shaping Sin City’s club-music scene since 1987. When XS debuted on New Year’s Eve in 2008, he was the venue’s opening music director, resident DJ and was programming an EDM format back then, setting the scene for what is now standard in nearly every nightclub in the city. Following a one-year stint at the Palms as the N9NE Group entertainment director and resident DJ, he returned to XS in 2011 to once again take his place alongside international headliners as resident DJ and program director. Freeze Frame

Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom goes from DJ to Silicon Valley billionaire and back again

Not gonna lie—when we heard Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom would be DJing at Rain Nightclub with Zen Freeman on Sept. 29, we raised our eyebrows. High. But then we talked with Systrom, and, for lack of better words, this guy knows his shit. He spent his teen days in Boston selling vinyl to the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Tiësto and Paul van Dyk. He later progressed to sneaking into clubs to hear superstar spinners, and even got to open for a few of them. We chatted with Systrom about his influences and, of course, Instagram. Read more »

Borgore Ruined Dubstep

Or did he? The DJ/producer talks piracy, strippers and Miley Cyrus

Jazz, metal and ultimately dubstep—Borgore can create it all, plus emcee up a filthy storm, put his face on ladies pasties and accomplish darn near anything else the unabashed Israeli DJ/producer feels like doing. Vegas Seven had an uncensored (and frequently amusing) conversation with the bass-music badass born Asaf Borger before his next Las Vegas gig at Marquee Nightclub’s BoomBox on Sept. 24. Read more »

Purest of Intentions

Pioneering DJ/producer Jesse Saunders’ Pure House Music Festival brings the house back home

Some of the biggest headliners on the Strip are billed as “house” DJs, yet play a combination of essentially Top 40 remixes with a 4/4 beat, or some other variations on the theme. Longtime house fans are up in arms in the Twittersphere over the direction the genre has taken, often debating: What is true house music? One of the genre’s recognized originators, Jesse Saunders, hopes to appease them—and to enlighten others—with the Pure House Music Festival on Sept. 29 at the Clark County Amphitheater. Read more »

Fridays Belong to Forbes

Tabú’s resident headliner owns your weekend from the outset

While some “resident” DJs only make monthly—or even quarterly—stops at their nightclub “homes,” our local spinners still hold it down all over town with weekly residency gigs. And if they’ve got the right stuff, they’ll even get their own night. One of the more recent eponymous parties is that of Bay Area native Eric Forbes, who’s worked his way up the ranks to rocking Forbes Fridays at Tabú in the MGM Grand. We learn more about his path from bartender to the booth. Read more »

Cue the DJ

Las Vegas’ DJ Scotty Boy sets his sights and stakes his future on a downtown pool hall

Las Vegas partying locals are no doubt familiar with one of the most familiar faces in the DJ scene, Scott “Scotty Boy” Schroer. From his current residency at Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub to his Top 10 ranking in the DJ Times’ America’s Best DJ poll three years running, plus a spot in TheDJList.com’s Top 100, he’s also won over the dance charts with his production pals Revolvr and DJ Red. If the life of a touring DJ wasn’t enough to keep him busy, Schroer plans to add owner/operator of a new downtown bar to his résumé this fall with the opening of Triple B: Backstage Bar & Billiards at 601 E. Fremont Street. Read more »

His sound put Nicky Romero on the EDM map—his remixes will put you in the party mood
