    Same S#!@, Different Year

    By Jason Scavone

It’s so tempting to assume that when the calendar flips over, the slate is wiped clean; that 2015 will be a distinct and novel experience of place-in-time, and not, say, another beige plod around the outer edge of a carousel parked inside the world’s fluorescent-lightin’est, volume-cranked-up-to-fourin’est, Counting Crowsin’est Restoration Hardware.

The Grand Garden Arena isn’t big enough

    By Jason Scavone

While we still don’t know the exact extent of Chris Brown and Drake’s New York City bottle fight over Rihanna, what we do know is the guy who did Celebrity Boxing wants the two of them to duke it out in Las Vegas. Damon Feldman wants to stage the fight as a $1 million charity event and wants Rihanna to be a ring girl. The Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather matchup has never seemed less relevant.

Drizzy Brings the Heat to Tao

    By Jason Scavone

The hip-hop equivalent of Zac Efron sipping a flat Diet Coke, Drake, was at Tao on May 11 for his official after-party to an MGM Grand Garden Arena concert that we assume put no more than 13 percent of its audience to sleep. Drizzy did a medley of hits, including all of “The Motto,” while J. Cole and Marley Marl took over his dance floor table. The club sent over yarmulkes, because Drake did his “HYFR” video about a bar mitzvah. Just in case you didn’t believe us that he was boring.

“I’m back in one of my favorite cities in the world,” Drake shouted as the frenzied crowd screamed their approval. Security had their hands full but kept eager fans from rushing the floor during the 25-year-old’s Club Paradise tour stop. With a band backing him and pyro firing in the background, Drake rolled through songs off his Thank Me Later and Take Care albums. He crooned (“Marvin’s Room”), rapped (“Lord Knows”) and even danced a bit (“Take Care”) through his energetic 90-minute set.

PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM: I know little about Katy Perry, aside from her monster hit “I Kissed a Girl.” I know she’s cute and pink and perky; I know she may or may not have kissed a girl, depending on which kind of reporter she’s talking to; I know that her duet with Elmo was pulled from Sesame Street because it was too risqué; and I know that she’s got a ton of fake nude photos on the web, and possibly some real ones.
