    Debating the Future of Google+

By Roger Erik Tinch, Geoff Carter, Roger Erik Tinch

Another case of death by Betamax Recently, my Google+ account experienced a glitch and dumped a bunch of friends from my “circles.” If a similar thing had happened to my Facebook account, I would have been pilloried, but I have yet to receive one angry e-mail over the Great Google Purge of January 2012. I still haven’t added everyone back because I’ve got Facebook and Twitter accounts that require more careful attention. Google+ is doomed to wait for one of those services to fail.

So the U.S. Postal Service has a $10 billion deficit. Who doesn’t? That’s no reason to say goodbye to good-old, undeterred-by-rain/sleet/snow/dogs, hand-carried mail. Never mind the nostalgia. There is real value in being able to stuff something in an envelope, seal it, and send it with reasonable confidence it’ll make it to your intended recipient. Most importantly, no one else will read it. Conversely, Gmail—for all of its miraculous, free convenience—is nosy, pushy and on the verge of driving me nuts.

    There’s a Map for That

    By Marvin Lucas

Whether you bike to work or bike to work out, Google Maps can help. While you probably know how to get to and from the office in your car, the online search giant’s enhanced mapping software can help you avoid busy thoroughfares when you’re on two wheels. “This is a huge step forward for bicycling,” Biking Las Vegas Lisa Caterbone recently declared after the technology was released. “I commend Google for encouraging people to get onto their bikes.”
