When Omnia Nightclub introduced Kaskade as its newest resident DJ, the Caesars Palace nightclub did more than just roll out a red carpet.
Minus Zero Festival will take the fun to a higher altitude, interlacing winter sports between sets from major names in electronic dance music.
Kaskade has had a busy month. He released the video for “A Little More” with John Dahlbäck and Sansa, and he announced the debut of his own record label, Arkade. Hopefully we’ll get a sample when he spins at XS.
Color me technologically impressed. If you like to geek out watching live set footage—especially what’s going on around the DJ with crowd reactions, go-gos shakin’ it—then XS has something for you.
After starting his winter stint at XS, Kaskade returned to Marquee to accept the DJ Times fan-voted award for America’s Best DJ, becoming the first two-time winner in the award’s eight-year history.
Contests can be so unimaginative. Can we get some compelling promotions this year, please? Yes, indeed! Kaskade is back at Marquee with the Summer Lovin’ residency, and he’s come bearing gifts: a charm bracelet with a unique charm for each of his 24 shows. If seeing the superstar on stage isn’t enough, then perhaps floating around in a hot air balloon together is more your speed. Here’s a tip: Wait 'til you’re in the air to declare your undying love.
Electric Daisy Carnival has released a lineup for the June 8-10 festival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Plenty of familiar faces are on the bill, including Afrojack, Avicii, Tiësto, Calvin Harris, Kaskade and Steve Aoki. Several big-ticket names are still out in the ether, though. No word yet on Skrillex or the ubiquitous LMFAO—which isn’t a stretch, given Will.i.am’s spot on the bill.
Through his international celebrity DJ status and record label, he taught us that Size Matters. Steve Angello spins and kicks off his new XS residency. In Encore, 9:30 p.m., men $300, women $150, XSLasVegas.com. The legendary Paul Oakenfold finishes up his three-year Perfecto residency at Rain with one final out and out bash. In the Palms, 10 p.m., starting at $110, Palms.com.
If Lollapalooza and the Warped Tour were formed in 2011, neither would probably be as successful, thanks to electronic music’s rise in popularity. First conquering underground clubs and raves, electronic dance music has finally been embraced by mainstream culture (well, at least the commercial side of it anyway). And now, North America’s first-ever touring electronic dance-music (EDM) festival embarks in August, taking over 20 cities this summer.
Last year, while trying to get my sea legs back, I made a mental prep list for the upcoming summer pool season: Buy a new Speedo, have my Captain’s hat cleaned and find some new songs to make the incoming crowds of party people splash. I considered that last bit of business the most important, and as I scrolled through the slew of MP3s in my inbox, I came across an e-mail from the central DJ wrangler for the Tao empire, Omar Galeano. The message contained a decree from Tao Group owner/partner/shot-caller Jason Strauss that commanded all resident DJs to work Kaskade’s “Move for Me” into their sets, in all venues, on all days, effective immediately. A short list of disc jockeys was attached on the message and, as the Saturday resident at Tao Beach at that time, I went about securing said track.
