There’s at least one bit of upside to this seemingly never-ending hellscape of political ads and election news: At least it was good for some moderate entertainment. Before his wife was in town, President Obama held a rally Oct. 24 at Doolittle Park, where Katy Perry performed in a skintight mini dress decked out like a presidential ballot, leading us to want to start a youth-oriented MTV turnout campaign called Grope the Vote. At the ripe old age of 41, Kid Rock is leaving his hard-rock roots in favor of a Southern rock/county sound. And on this night, it worked: The sometimes-rapper had the audience singing and dancing to hit after hit. Hinting that he has no plans of slowing down, Rock covered the John Eddie song “Forty” and emphasized these lyrics: Well, I guess I’m fucking 40/but Bruce Springsteen is 62/and The Stones are almost dead.
