Meatball Spot Passes the Pauly D Test

    By Jason Scavone

Carla Pellegrino’s Meatball Spot is quickly becoming a place to dine among celebrities, which is no surprise given that it’s brought to you by some of the same people behind Sugar Factory and Chateau. Though maybe it got a boost from Pellegrino’s Episode 3 win on Top Chef: Seattle, as long as no one actually watched her nearly saw her hand off. Whatever the reason, the absolutely inevitable just happened: A Las Vegas Italian restaurant with deep celeb connections got Pauly D to eat there.

DJ Pauly D has a doppelgänger

    By Jason Scavone

First it was Deadmau5. Then we had Cazzette. Now, in the fine tradition of DJs or DJ-related-people wearing weird crap on their heads, we have the giant Pauly D mascot head. God help us all. Whether getting in on the headgear craze or just taking a swipe at Deadmau5 following their Twitter-fueled public spat in May, Pauly D was interrupted during his set at Rehab on Oct. 7 by a creepy-as-hell giant Pauly D bobblehead, who jumped on the decks and sprayed the crowd with champagne.

Fashionista on a whirlwind Cirque du Soleil tour

    By Jason Scavone

Italian designer Domenico Dolce spent his Las Vegas weekend barnstorming theaters up and down the Strip, as apparently the only thing he cares about more than haute couture is fancy clowns and silk aerialists. On Aug. 2, he hit up Kà and O, then did Viva Elvis and Zumanity on Aug. 3 before closing it up with a relaxing Saturday of just Mystère. He’s going to be irate when he finds out he’s just missing Zarkana and Immortal by a few months.

    Pool season starts with Pitbull

    By Jason Scavone

Now that the weather has dialed up from “Scottish moor in December” to “surface of the sun two months earlier than expected” in the span of about six days, it seems like perfect timing for pool season to come all the way online. Which is fortunate, considering pool season just came all the way online.

Pauly D, Pool Parties and Paris

The Hard Rock took away the Palms’ pet guido. Pauly D signed on for an exclusive residency on the property. Jersey Shore stars once again pop up all around town

    By Jason Scavone

We certainly weren’t expecting this one: After the fight Nov. 12, Boardwalk Empire, Fargo and ChicksWithSteveBuscemeyes.tumblr.com star Steve Buscemi turned up at Surrender. He drank Macallan, because Steve Buscemi rolls old-school like that.

    Pick a Shore, any Shore

    By Jason Scavone

Not that they need any particular reason to show up in town, half the cast of Jersey Shore was here for the weekend to play into as many stereotypes as they could in as short an amount of time as possible. Last year, Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio let the blowout go for a night when he came out to Rain dressed as Justin Bieber—floppy hair and all. This year, there were no such shenanigans. Back at Rain on Oct. 29, DelVecchio had half his face painted like a skull and the other half painted tan. Well, more tan. Faker tan. If that’s possible.

    Kaskade Crowned Best DJ

    By Jason Scavone

America has voted, and like Nixon in ’68, the former runner-up has ascended to the top spot. Unlike Nixon in ’68, we’re assuming Kaskade isn’t going to bug the Democrats, although he does have some sweet new audio technology at his disposal in the form of the gold-plated Pioneer mixer he received at Marquee on Oct. 9 for winning DJ Times magazine’s 2011 America’s Best DJ award.

    Midsummer a blowout blowout

    By Jason Scavone

A concept that shockingly hasn’t caught on elsewhere—putting girls in lingerie and letting them prance around the pool on a summer night—had its annual bow at the Palms Pool & Bungalows. The Playboy-affiliated Midsummer Night’s Dream party was Aug. 13, with a tricked-out DJ booth manned by Jersey Shore’s Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio. DelVecchio, who just started touring with Britney Spears, talked about getting a little bump and grind from Spears.

Pauly D to spin at the Palms

    By Jason Scavone

Pauly D has been tapped as an exclusive resident DJ at the Palms. He’ll be spinning at Rain, Moon, Ghostbar and the Palms Pool & Bungalows. Though a starting date hasn’t yet been announced, it’s widely believed that he’ll arrive just as soon as a cab is here to pick him up. Assuming the Sammi/Ronnie relationship didn’t—as he threatened—cause him to commit suicide.

In the pantheon of unlikely buddies, there are giants who walk among us. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. Sylvester Stallone and his mom, who will shoot lest you knock off whatever it is you’re doing. Turner and Hooch. Add one more to the roster: Aaron Rodgers and DJ Pauly D. The Super Bowl MVP, and the “P” in the more tanning-centric MVP.

    Nightmare on Jersey Shore

In the intra-Jersey Shore costume contest, there’s a clear winner. (Well, as much as there can be with this sort of thing.) Of the three who were here this past weekend, Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino comes in a distant third. He hosted Jet’s Nightmare in Jersey on Oct. 29 and didn’t even bother to wear a costume. But being The Situation is practically a full-time costume in and of itself.
