Immortal, A Second Opinion
December 8th, 2011
With a verse from “Somebody’s Watching Me,” you can’t say that Immortal doesn’t dig into Michael Jackson’s career. (Also, apparently, Rockwell’s career.) So deep, in fact, that Bubbles the Chimp is a major part of the show and there’s a scene when some Cirque performer has to set aside whatever modicum of dignity he or she had, dress up like a giant sequined glove and dance around. Body Electric
December 8th, 2011
Designer Zaldy Goco was hired as the stylist/costumer for Jackson’s final tour, This Is It, which ultimately never came to fruition. Chan’s revelation inspired her to create a musical that would not only feature Asian actors, but also portray strong female characters relatable to today’s audiences. Read more »

Ivana Be a Star
A chat with the unknown and uncoordinated Absinthe duo
November 24th, 2011
Ivan and Ivana added an act to their repertoire when Absinthe returned with a new tent in late October. In this one, the silks are ditched in favor of a lyrical “acro-ballet” duet that most resembles the climatic dance from Dirty Dancing as reinterpreted through the eyes of a perverted and uncoordinated Richard Simmons. While the accident-prone acrobats may not get recognized in Boston Pizza just yet, they are poised to steal their share of the spotlight. And in honor of the feat, the (allegedly) Russian-born Chekov-Joneses broke breadsticks with Vegas Seven for their first exclusive interview. Read more »

A chat with the carpenter behind the top-secret magic on the occasion of Believe’s third anniversary
October 27th, 2011
Like an FBI agent or a member of the Secret Service, there’s a lot about his job that Jeff Wilson can’t talk about. But Wilson doesn’t work for the government. He’s head of carpentry for Cirque du Soleil’s Criss Angel Believe, which celebrates three years on Halloween. Because of the secrecy associated with magic shows, the quest to discover what a head of carpentry actually does was tricky, although we do know he has about 20 years of experience and leads a team of 11.
