Buffets, Pennies and Party Rooms

There’s been a lot of hype lately about the expensive buffets around town, and I have to admit that even I was seduced to some degree. But the classic buffet concept long synonymous with Las Vegas is the lower-priced all-you-can-eat spread—and the best of the bunch now are the “Feasts” at Station Casinos. Read more »

Casino Crime Growing Up

De Rong Shang’s sentencing today to six years in prison for masterminding a credit fraud that took Station Casinos for more than $1 million says a lot about “real” vs. “reel” casino crime. Read more »

A debut, a superbuffet and a fond farewell

It wasn’t accompanied by a lot of fanfare, but a new casino opened this week—the new Wildfire Sunset, formerly the Gold Rush, next to Sunset Station. Wildfire Sunset is a slots-only casino (no table games) with a sportsbook. There’s also a Wildburger, a 24-hour restaurant that serves big hamburgers for $8. Read more »

Pasta Cucina, which has outposts at various Station Casinos, understands the meaning of al dente and that often pasta needs no more than just a few fresh ingredients to make it sing. Read more »

Labor Smackdown!

In an old-school unionization battle, the gloves come off. Why Station Casinos and the Culinary Union are fighting as if their lives depend on it.

The Station Casinos ads aren’t pushing a product or a service, and they’re not burnishing the company’s name, at least not in the sense of a traditional image campaign. They’re asking you to take sides in a nasty labor battle between Station and the Culinary Union Local 226, which wants desperately to organize at the non-union Station properties. Read more »

Holiday Cheer

Las Vegas is a tough sell on the holidays. Some come, but most of the Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa crowd would rather spend the holidays at home with family than have a December blowout in Sin City. Go figure. For those of us who live here, though, it’s a different story. We can stay at home and take advantage of the good deals the casinos throw our way. Here are a few of them. Read more »

It’s No Joke

The other day I heard another comedian make a reference to Las Vegas and its “$1.99 all-you-can-eat buffets.” Everyone loves saying that, even though there hasn’t been a $1.99 buffet in Las Vegas for many years. The sentiment is right, however, as some of today’s buffets are still awfully cheap. Read more »

Changing of the Card

Have you used your Boarding Pass card this week? If you haven’t, you’re in for some surprises the next time you do. Station Casinos has instituted a major revamping of its players club structure, and the news is all good. For starters, you can now get cash back as a rewards option. This is a pretty big deal for Station, which has always had a generous club, but has not offered cash back in the past. Read more »
