When you're recruiting at a national level, there isn't much time to feel sorry for yourself. After losing out on top-rated high school guard Isaac Hamilton last week, UNLV has another huge recruiting event coming up this weekend, as elite power forward Jermaine Lawrence will be visiting. Lawrence is down to four finalists, and this visit will play a huge part in his decision, so expect the UNLV staff to roll out the proverbial red carpet.

The first day of the early signing period is over, but recruiting season is far from finished. UNLV received signed letters of intent from two members of the Class of 2013 on Wednesday, but there's still work to be done if the Rebels want to haul in another elite class.

It's been a big weekend for UNLV basketball, and not just because the Rebels have been getting ready for their season opener against Northern Arizona. • Hamilton, Johnson May Be in Play for UNLV

    By Mike Grimala

With the early signing period opening Nov. 14, expect recruiting news (and rumors) to start pouring in. UNLV already has three players committed for the Class of 2013, but expect them to add at least one more prospect to that group before all is said and done.

  • Practice report: Looking ahead to Dixie State

    By Mike Grimala

With Saturday's scrimmage against UCLA in the rearview mirror, the Rebels are now focused on Wednesday's exhibition game against Dixie State. It's the only exhibition game on the slate for UNLV this year, so coach Dave Rice and his players are taking the contest very seriously.

  • Rebs welcome newest commit Kendrick

    By Mike Grimala

UNLV added a former McDonald's High School All-American to its 2013 recruiting class over the weekend, getting a commitment from juco prospect Jelan Kendrick on Friday night. "I'm very excited," said Kendrick, who watched the Rebels practice on Friday and Saturday. "I think the program is great. The coaches here have a passion for winning, and they're committed to bringing this program back to another national championship. That's something I want to be a part of."

  • Recruiting: Rebels in early on 2014 forward Johnson

    By Mike Grimala

One key to reeling in top recruits is recognizing the elite talent early in the process, and UNLV coach Dave Rice knows that as well as anyone — it's a strategy the Rebels are employing with their recruitment of Class of 2014 small forward Stanley Johnson.

  • The Battle Against Perceived Reality

    By Sean DeFrank

No college basketball coach has ever been vilified more by the national media for perceived wrongdoing than Jerry Tarkanian when he was at UNLV, and now a post on a popular sports website has attached the “cheater” label to second-year Rebel coach Dave Rice.
