    Jared Montz stood in black underwear on Hollywood Boulevard, ready to begin juggling a soccer ball for the camera. It was April 19, the last stop in the former professional soccer player’s two-month, 43-city tour across the country. The idea: to juggle and get others to do the same, all in the interest of raising awareness and funds for combating malaria in Africa. Montz was wearing the underwear line of Ellen Degeneres that day, hoping the popular talk-show host would catch wind of it through social media and drum up support for the cause. (She didn’t.)

The company has settled down to releasing evolutionary updates to once revolutionary products, and too often plays catch-up by belatedly adding features pioneered by competitors. But Apple’s superb attention to detail can still be impressive, especially when they release so many features at once, as they have with the iPhone 5.

    The tablet war has essentially divided into two fronts: between 9- and 7-inch devices. The market for 9-inch tablets is still dominated by Apple’s iPad, but the new 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD that was announced last week (at $299, it costs $200 less than the iPad) could finally give it serious competition. For now, though, the real competition is among 7-inch tablets.
