    People and Places

    1. The Most Interesting Man in Las Vegas Nightlife Jason Strauss, Tao Group To the untrained eye, Strauss might look like any other nightclub mogul: well-dressed, successful, confident—the epitome of calm, cool and collected. Yet under his designer exterior is a collection of contradictions that make him one of the most interesting people in Las Vegas, never mind the nightlife industry.

    Events

    19. Hottest One-Off Party A Midsummer Night’s Dream, N9NE Group Summer got extra hot in July when the Palms hosted its fourth annual midsummer extravaganza. More than a party, the evening was the event of the season, with more than 2,500 revelers scattered across the pool area in various states of dress (or undress). Attendees eagerly embraced the “Gods and Goddesses” theme, showing off their sexed-up Grecian costumes, while the Palms Pool and Bungalows was transformed, too, creating a sight—make that a scene—for sore eyes.

    Design

    26. Best Design XS The Nightclub at Encore Our favorite part about XS? Right from the start there are statues of lost souls enshrouded in gold, reaching out of the walls at you. From there, the club never lets up its assault of lavish visuals, posh spaces and a layout that lets you delight in discovery. It takes the basic building blocks of a luxury nightlife experience and then confounds your expectations at every turn.

    32. Best Pool Encore Beach Club at Encore For the first-timer, stepping into these environs must be like being transported to some heavenly European hot spot, a pulsating Mediterranean party palace in far-flung Ibiza and St. Tropez. Awash in vibrant ochre and burnished gold, the 60,000-square-foot pool complex opened its doors Memorial Day weekend, drawing thousands to experience the hypnotic sounds of house DJ/producer Kaskade, who held a weekly residency at Kaskade Sundays.

    Drinking & Dining

    39. Dining with a Scene Off-Strip: Vintner Grill This beautiful New American bistro is hidden in an office park in Summerlin. But when it opened in 2007, you might have thought you had found one of Scottsdale, Ariz.’s hottest new Stetson Drive spots. Filled with folks as well-appointed as the room itself, Vintner satiated an unfulfilled niche for casually elegant dining and socializing in the ’burbs. Then the recession hit. And Town Square opened.

    LGBT

    48. Best Gay DJ Lisa Pittman Many DJs would kill for just one of Pittman’s three Tao Group residencies. Each week finds her spinning at Tao, Lavo and, soon, Marquee industry Mondays and alternating Saturdays. She might be opening, headlining or closing the main room, hip-hip room or lounges—each week is different. Pittman also spins hip-hop every weekend at noon on Hot 97.5-FM, although she describes her own sound as a mix of indie and tribal, heavy on the drums for the boys, heavy on the hip-hop for the girls.
