    Express Yourself

He’s funny, he’s fabulous and he’s every woman’s gay best friend. Simon Doonan, the creative ambassador at large for Barneys New York, has always been a trusted name in the fashion industry. And although he won’t claim the title of style guru, just last year he was given the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Lifetime Achievement Award. “I don’t think people think of me as much of a guru,” Doonan says. “From me, I think they can rely on a kind of humorous take on what is going on.”

    America’s birthday suit

    By Jenna Doughton

On Oct. 14, 1939, Ralph Lifshitz was born in the Bronx, N.Y. A lover of beautiful things, he would save his money to buy nice suits even at a young age. He studied business but dropped out shortly before achieving his degree. While working for a tie manufacturer, he decided to try his hand at designing a different type of tie than what was popular at the time. With a $50,000 loan, the Polo Company was born, and Ralph Lauren is now a $900 million empire.

    Jersey Store

    By Marvin Lucas

Jersey Shore is hardly a pinnacle of cutting-edge fashion. From Jenni Farley’s revealing halter-tops, to Mike Sorrentino’s affliction for Affliction, the look isn’t haute couture. Still, JWoww has a clothing line, and will celebrate during a private event at Ghostbar July 3. Farley, 23, calls her collection Filthy Couture.“I kept it low-cut and short,” she says. “That’s my style.”
