    Vegas, Baby, I’m Comin’ Home

    By Geno Bernardo

Well, this it. We are savoring our final hours in the old country, and I’m coming home tomorrow. It has been a great trip; I’ve seen and ate so much. I am incredibly lucky to have had the chance to travel with such great friends, and meet such great people along the way. Traveling foreign lands and experiencing different societies always makes for great memories—and I have a lot of them from this adventure, I know I’ll have for life.

    U2, and Panini for Three

    By Geno Bernardo

Last night I saw the most amazing concert I’ve ever seen. Jay and Drama were there, and let me tell you, it was breathtaking. From our spots in the red zone (VIP, of course! Vegas, baby!), it was truly a site to see. (And big, big thanks to Jay for getting us the VIP passes!) More than 80,000 fans looked on as Bono and the boys rocked Torino until 2 a.m. If you have yet to see U2 live, let me tell you, U2 puts on a great show. Wow! Now we are heading to Milan for the home stretch of the trip. Oh! But before I forget: The food last night!

    Partying Like Vegas Rock Stars

    By Geno Bernardo

Here I am, saying it again: Last night was a blur. It started with the boys drinking wine in Portofino. While we were there, we saw Seal and Heidi Klum, which was pretty cool. Then we headed back into Santa Margarita to have some pizza and drink more wine. Vino has been a constant theme throughout the trip; we counted how many bottles of wine we’ve had so far, and settled on 45 bottles!.

    A Market to Remember

    By Geno Bernardo

Zack Allen from Carnevino and Kerry Clasberg (our local produce forager from our farmers market) both told me to check Eaitaly while I was in Torino, and today I did it. I didn't know what to expect, but from the minute we walked in, I was in food heaven. This place has everything—from vino and cheese, to salami and other meats, fish, etc. It is like Whole Foods on steroids! We were there for FIVE hours (!!). Each part of the place has a little restaurant featuring the best of the best, so we ate at everyone.

    A Splendid Table in Torino

    By Geno Bernardo

We arrived in Torino yesterday, still hurting from the craziness we experienced in Santa Margarita. Needless to say, it was a take-it-easy day. I just walked around and soaked up some sights, since everything was new to me. I haven’t been this far north before (!). I really enjoyed the culture and architecture that you can take in while just roaming the streets. I stopped to ask some locals were we should try to eat dinner, and the talk around town seemed to indicate that the place to be (or eat) was a restaurant called La Smarrita.

Bringing Las Vegas to the Mediterranean

    By Geno Bernardo

Right now, the boys are at the beach chilling and relaxing, soaking in the sun and swimming in the Mediterranean. This is one beautiful place, and the town has a super laid-back vibe. But let’s get to the good stuff from last night—or what we can remember from last night. (We partied as if we were in Vegas, took over the bar and quickly made friends with the owner!) We showed Italy that you can get drunk drinking espresso (if you make your espresso shots like Nove does!). Marcus and my bar team would clean up here. (Miss you guys!).

    No Reservations

    By Geno Bernardo

Today was an interesting one—I couldn't wait to get back to my room so I could get my cell phone and share it with all of you (I wish I had brought it with me, but I am on vacation!). The day started like a typical vacation day in a beach town: We went to the beach, hung out and got some sun (boring, right? We can do this in Vegas). However, the journey began when we walked along the coast, and found the best cliff-jumping rock.

    Feast of the Fishes

    By Geno Bernardo

It’s already time to leave Florence, after a brief, in-and-out, overnight stay. We arrived mid-afternoon, and our first stop was at the central market for a round of those trippa sandwiches I’ve been talking about. I had been waiting two years to come back and enjoy another one, and I have to say, WOW, they’re just like I remember. The same guy was there who served me last time. The only difference was this time I only had two. (That should hold me over for a few years!) I am really thinking about putting a similar sandwich on my menu at Nove once I get home.

    A Roman Feast

    By Geno Bernardo

Hey, Vegas! I want to tell you about my first day in Rome. We landed at 11:30 a.m. and took a cab to our hotel. I can practically throw a rock to the Spanish steps from the hotel lobby; it’s amazing. I couldn't wait to take my friends Jay Beckman and Johnny Drama to Compa di Fore Square to eat the best pizza in the world—a verdict that was in, after the first bite, then re-delivered again and again through the 20th bite. Delicious.

    Full and Florence-bound

    By Geno Bernardo

Last night three great days in Rome came to an end. The boys and I meet up with MK and Lisa Kornick at La Scala Ristornate, which is a locals spot, about 20 minutes outside of Rome. (We got the hook-ups in Rome; the boys only find the best restaurants!) We arrived at 9 p.m. and from the minute we sat down, the food and wine didn't stop—for four hours! We started with antipasti: octopus salad, spada crudo (swordfish), salumi and melon, grilled veggies with extra virgin olive oil, fried artichokes, breasola and arugula.

    Pizza, Pizza!

    By Geno Bernardo

OK, so it is Sunday morning here, so that means it is Saturday night for all of you. Let me tell you about my Saturday. The day started out with the boys meeting up with Michael Kornick (again, he’s a chef partner of N9NE Group, which owns my restaurant, Nove Italiano, at the Palms) and his wife, Lisa, at Forno for some more of the best pizza. That’s right, I said it again: The best pizza!

    Checking In

    By Geno Bernardo

Hey Vegas! I don’t have much time, here, but I wanted to send a quick hello. Today is all about drinking vino with the boys. We’re going to drink a few bottles, then get ready for dinner with Michael and Lisa Kornick. Wish us luck!

Hit the Ground Running, Stomach Rumbling

    By Geno Bernardo

I’m here! I just landed, and can already smell the food in the air. I have my sights set on the pizza best in the world—true forno pizza, from Forno Pizzeria in Camp de Forte Square. But first, I think I’ll grab an espresso with the boys to try to shake this jetlag. Stay tuned!
